Common Pricing Methods Used By Window Cleaners

Window cleaners use different methods when they walk a job. Several factors come into play, geographic location, services being offered, obstacles, filth level, and even customer temperament.

Window Cleaners Prices Vary By Location

Palm Springs Sign

Welcome to my service area, beautiful Palm Springs!

Window cleaning prices can differ depending on what part of the country you live in. I can only speak for the Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, Indian Wells, and La Quinta area of The Coachella Valley. The average home price for a middle income family is around $300,000. Of course there’s variables even in a small area. Window cleaners average about $100 for every thousand feet of square footage. Prices could be lower in areas such as the Midwest where the cost of living is much lower than Palm Desert California. The hundred dollars per thousand square feet tends to be pretty common place though. Pane count is obviously a factor, as well as projected labor. Employing a combination of pane count and time on job is the norm.

Window Cleaning Is Just One Service

Window Cleaners don’t just clean windows !

Not every customer is looking for just window cleaning. Most window cleaners also offer other services such as ; hard water stain removal, shower door clearing, gutter cleaning, and solar panel cleaning are some of the many add on services.

Hard water stain removal requires more time and work. Accordingly window cleaners must charge more. Average cost is usually triple what a regular cleaning would cost. An example would be a slider that has been hit by sprinklers and has become stained. An regular cleaning on unstained panes would be around $20 for both panes but $40-$60 if hard water stain removal is needed.

Shower door clearing is a difficult task, therefor prices will reflect so. Shower doors can build up a lot of soap scum and hard water stains. This requires a combination of chemicals, tools, and technique. Average cost for a door and panel starts at $75 and can reach $200.

Gutter clearing and gutter whitening are a little different. Gutter clearing is basically debris removal and down spout clearing. Gutter whitening is going the extra mile and removing stains from the inside and out using bleach or other chemicals. Gutter clearing is around $1.50 per linear foot, gutter whitening is around $3.00 per linear foot.

Solar panel cleaning prices depends on many factors; Can the panels be cleaned from the ground? How dirty are they? How many panels are there? Average solar panel cleaning $2-$5 per panel.

Obstacles, What’s Does Your Window Cleaner Have To Work Around ?

Obstacles that pose a hazard or impede the productivity of a window cleaner can affect pricing.

Do you have decorations on your window ledge? Window treatments, furniture, bars on your windows can affect cleaning prices. Most window cleaners are fine with moving personal items to clean your mirrors and windows but will price accordingly. Some will refuse due to insurance risks of possibly breaking expensive items.

How Long Has it Been Since Your Last Cleaning ?

Dirt and grime level on panes of glass are definitely determining factors to arrive at an estimate price

Is it your first cleaning? Has it been awhile? Or did your last window cleaner disappear, but you’ve had your windows cleaned regularly? Dirt level is a pricing factor. If a window cleaner has to scrape paint, vacuum pet hair from tracks, and contend with nicotine stains, the first cleaning will cost a little more. Try asking your window cleaner about a maintenance program that can save you money in the long run.

What Kind Of Customer Are You ?

How picky are you about your windows?

It has been said that “Attitude Matters” Professionals from all sorts of trades often take a customer’s character into consideration. Most window cleaners can deal with a customer with a helpful eye for spots that might’ve been missed, have certain aspects that are of high importance to them, or are downright picky and anal. Different people have different expectations and standards. Though the higher of the two can translate to the bill. The best practice is to put faith in your window cleaner.

There are many factors that go into how a window cleaner structures his prices. It comes down to personal preferences and techniques. Difficulty of the job, and how long the job will take to complete.
