In my time as a Professional Window Cleaner serving the Rancho Mirage and La Quinta area, I have come across quite a few unusual ways to remove  stains. From hard water stains, tree sap, adhesive on tinted windows, silicone on glass, to crayon, there are ways to mitigate these stubborn stains.

Hard Water Stains

Bet you didn’t know all the amazing products that can remove hard stains.

A lot of people know a couple tricks to get rid of hard water stains using vinegar, CLR, etc. Did you know about baby powder?

Baby powder can be used as a gentle abrasive to remove hard water stains

Baby powder is a little known trick for removing calcium and iron deposits left behind from the water we irrigate and shower with. The water out here in Beaumont and Palm Desert has some of the highest TDS readings in The Coachella Valley and Inland Empire. Often the application of an abrasive is necessary. Dip a sponge in a mild stain remover, sprinkle some baby powder on the sponge and watch the magic happen.

Adhesive Residue

Often masking tape and duct used in masking for painting gets left on too long leaving a residue behind.

I’m sure you’ve experienced this dilemma before, adhesive residue left behind from masking tape left on window frames for too long. It’s not a good idea to just grab a razor and start scraping away. Chances are that the adhesive has collected grit, and dragging that grit across a window pane or frame is asking for trouble. So what are your options? I have one for you…

WD-40

There are hundreds of uses for WD-40, one of which is an effective adhesive remover

I discovered this trick when I had to remove tape residue from tinted windows in a storefront in Cathedral City. The adhesive had grit trapped on it, therefore any scraping or aggressive rubbing was negated. After some research on the search engine that brought you to this article, I found this miracle spray. Simply apply to the affected area, let dwell for a few minutes and gently wipe off.

Oven Cleaner

Oven cleaner is designed to remove baked on food and grease from your oven, it can also remove hard to clean tar, sap, and crayon from windows and french doors

Deposits such as tree sap and tar can prove difficult to clean off of windows. These substances are commonplace in cities in my window cleaning service area such as Redlands, Yucaipa, and Cherry Valley. Using traditional methods can just create a smeared mess. I found through other window cleaners this helpful hint. Care must be taken though as this chemical will remove paint as well as the intended target. Spray the oven cleaner on the stubborn mess, let dwell, then wipe away.

These are just a few of the many chemicals, solvents, and compounds that you can use to get the glass of your home crystal clear.
