Water can only achieve so much on it’s own. Stubborn stains such as oil, rust, and efflorescense will require the use of chemicals. In this article we will discuss the most common stains and the pressure washing chemicals needed for removal. Our tips will be geared towards The Southwest due to our service area.
Oil Stain And Tire Mark Removal
Oil stains are common on driveways and parking garages. Most cars will develop a leak at some point causing staining. Tire marks and oil stains cannot be removed by water and pressure alone. A degreaser containing sodium hydroxide is required such as Gold Assassin or EBC. While these degreasers can eliminate most stains, there can still be remnants after pressure washing.
Rust Stain Removal
Iron oxide, or rust stains occur when iron in water reacts on concrete. These stains usually appear reddish-brown or darker. Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, and Redlands California irrigation water is high in iron. Staining occurs when iron from irrigation water oxidizes. Pressure washing chemicals include phosphoric acid or oxalic acid. The main problem with either of these liquids is the risk of injury. Acid applied incorrectly can etch concrete, causing damage. ShinePro Window Cleaning uses F9 BARC. F9 BARC is professional grade, safer, and more effective than phosphoric acid.
Efflorescense Stain Removal
If you reside here in La Quinta, Palm Springs, or Yucaipa, you’ve seen efflorescense. These deposits are white, usually on the edge of sidewalks, and difficult to remove. Hard water stains occur when the salts in concrete or brick leaches out. The pressure washing chemical needed for removal is muriatic acid. Like phosphoric acid, muriatic can be dangerous to your lungs and skin. A safer alternative is Front Nine Restoration Efflo. Efflorescense is difficult to remove and will return in water run off continues. Discuss with your Landscaper regarding irrigation overflow.
